China: Jiangxi Province Helps Tobacco Farmers to Earn More Money

Jiangxi tobacco industry helped tobacco farmers to increase yield and income on the base of increasing investment on tobacco facilities and reducing tobacco production cost in recently years. Jiangxi province purchased 870,000 dan(43,500,000 kgs) leaf tobacco at a record high; tobacco farmers income totaled 730 million yuan, per household income reached 38,4000 yuan, up 74.5 percent over year-on-year. Jiangxi province has invested 1.03 billion yuan to establish tobacco production facilities and to improve production capacity of local crop. Just in 2011, Jiangxi has invested 380 billion yuan on tobacco production programme, including water sources, roads, curing-barns, agricultural machines, seedling equipment, etc.. The irrigation problem of 18000 mu (1200 ha) tobacco field has been settled. The total area of tobacco field, which can use agricultural machines, increased by 62000 mu (4133.33 ha).
