China: Delegation of Provincial Tobacco Industry Visits Key Tobacco-growing Area

A delegation from the tobacco industry of northeast China's Liaoning Province, led by deputy division chief Ma Xin of Liaoning Provincial Tobacco Corporation, visited tobacco plantations in Luoping County – a key tobacco-growing area in Qujing City of southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province – on May 30, to study modernization of the mode of leaf tobacco production there. The delegation also grouped leaders of the tobacco companies in Chaoyang, Tieling, Dandong, Fuxin and other cities of Liaoning Province. Accompanied by Deputy Manager Gao Huafeng of Qujing City Tobacco Company and leaders of Luoping County Tobacco Subcompany, the delegation went to the core model leaf tobacco plantation at Duolu Village in Luoxiong Township to conduct on-site verification of field growth of leaf tobacco there. Seeing the well growing tobacco crops on the 20,000 mu (1,333 hectares) of contiguous tobacco fields there, Ma Xin made high comments, and said it was very impressive that the contiguous tobacco fields were so large in area, that the tobacco crops were of high specifications, and that the tobacco crops were growing in a balanced and orderly way, sufficiently indicating that Luoping County was highly successful in soil preparation and crop rotation, and was practical and pertinent in adopting various technical measures in field management in tobacco production. Afterwards, the delegation also visited Luoping Yimin Farm Machinery Cooperative and Yifeng Tobacco Farm Machinery 4S Shop with great interest. At Luoping Yimin Farm Machinery Cooperative, the delegation elaborately asked about the organizational establishment, operation, management, gains from share ownership, etc. At Yifeng Tobacco Farm Machinery 4S Shop, the delegation was shown around various farm machinery, and elaborately asked about the prices of specialized farm machinery, subsidy policies, effects of application, etc, and conducted in-depth exchange of views with Board of Directors Chairman Yuan Guohong of the 4S shop on the construction, management, operation, etc of the 4S shop. During the visit, Ma Xin said that Luoping County had actually taken a lead in the scope of tobacco growing, basic management of tobacco production, the mode of operation of tobacco production, etc. In particular, the work of Luoping County to generalize whole-process mechanization in leaf tobacco production had played a relatively great role in realizing the targets of "reducing the use of manpower, lowering the cost of production, and increasing efficiency". In its operation of tobacco production in a next period of time, the tobacco industry of Liaoning would draw on the successful experience and fine approaches of Luoping County in modernization of the mode of leaf tobacco production, in order to further promote the construction and development of a modern tobacco agriculture in Liaoning Province, according to Ma Xin.
