Pakistani Growers Threaten Auction Boycott

Jun 1, 2012-Tobacco growers in Pakistan have threatened to boycott auctions over prices, according to a Right Vision News story relayed by the TMA. The growers are demanding that the Tobacco Board raise the price of leaf tobacco from Rs117 per kg to Rs200 per kg, include growers' representatives in the board, consider tobacco as an agriculture crop and bring it under provincial government control. The growers alleged that the board had fixed leaf prices without holding consultations with them. They said the cost of cultivating one kg of tobacco was about Rs200, far more than the selling price fixed by the board.Enditem
