China: City Tobacco Company Sends Workgroup to Check Damage from Hailstorm Source from: Qujing City Tobacco Company 05/28/2012 Qujing City Tobacco Company in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province, which doubles as Qujing City Tobacco Monopoly Administration, sent a workgroup to Shizong County in Qujing City to check damage from a recent hailstorm hitting the local region and damaging tobacco crops there.
From 16:50 to 17:20 on May 20, Danfeng Township in Shizong County was hit by a hailstorm with torrential rainfall, with 21 natural villages under the jurisdiction of seven Villagers' Committees in the township sustaining damage to different extents, and with serious damage to tobacco crops in the region.
After the disaster took place, Communist Party Committee Secretary and General Manager Wu Jian, Director Bai Tao, Deputy Director Tang Kun and relevant personnel with the production section of Shizong County Tobacco Subcompany personally traveled to the disaster area to check damage and direct efforts for disaster relief, and made reports on their work to the leadership of Qujing Tobacco Tobacco Company in a timely manner.
In response, the leadership of Qujing Tobacco Tobacco Company attached great importance to the event, gave important instructions on disaster relief, and designated Deputy Director Wu Meihua and Staff Members Dai Shaozhou and Lan Bo with the Production Department of the company to form a workgroup and travel to Shizong County to check damage from the disaster and direct efforts for disaster relief there.
Meanwhile, Deputy General Manager Zhao Yong of Qujing City branch of China Pacific Property Insurance Co., Ltd. also traveled to Shizong County to handle affairs of settlement of claims.
After conducting on-site verification, Qujing City Tobacco Company held a meeting at Shizong County Tobacco Subcompany to hear reports on the work of disaster relief in the wake of the May 20 hailstorm. After hearing the reports, the workgroup expressed the belief that the efforts for disaster relief adopted by Shizong County Tobacco Subcompany were under good leadership, were well organized, were well planned, were well carried out and were well directed.
[b]On continued efforts for disaster relief, the workgroup put forward the following proposals:[/b]
Firstly, efforts shall be made to determine the acreage of tobacco crops damaged in the disaster, and the extent of damage.
Secondly, efforts shall be made immediately to allocate supplies of tobacco seedlings, pesticides, chemical fertilizers, etc to the disaster area, in order that local tobacco growers will be able to make up for damage, additionally apply fertilizer and make soil preparation in the wake of the disaster. In this respect, local tobacco monopoly administrative authorities and their technicians need to strengthen technical guidance and implementation.
Thirdly, there shall be taxonomic guidance and scientific disaster relief.
And fourthly, in accordance with the relevant provisions, the local tobacco monopoly administrative authorities need to cooperate with the local insurance company in earnestly conducting investigation and verification of damage sustained by tobacco growers, before making taxonomic registration, declaring plans for settlement of claims and extending insurance compensation for damage in a timely manner.
