Use of Wood Fuel for Curing Under Threat Source from: Tobacco Reporter 03/15/2012 The Karnataka state government's Minister for Forests, C.P. Yogeshwar, has said that his government is looking to ban the use of wood for curing tobacco in the state, according to a story in the latest issue of the BBM Bommidala Group newsletter.
In its place, he said, the Tobacco Board of India would be asked to provide tobacco growers with more coal at subsidized prices.
But the minister said also that the additional subsidized coal would be used to minimize the use of forest wood, which seemed to indicate that wood use would be restricted rather than banned. Enditem
