China: Sichuan Tobacco-Producing Province Raises Leaf Tobacco Price for 2012 Source from: TobaccoChina Online 02/13/2012 Sichuan Province in southwest China, a leading Chinese tobacco-producing region, has decided to raise the average sales price of its X2F flue-cured tobacco to 910 yuan (143 U.S. dollars) per 50 kilograms in 2012, from the level of 790 yuan (125 U.S. dollars) per 50 kilograms in 2011, an increase of 15 percent year-on-year.
The price increase is in line with an official notice on readjusting leaf tobacco sales prices jointly issued by the National Development and Reform Commission and the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration on February 6, 2012.
According to the official notice, the average flue-cured tobacco sales price nationwide will go up 20 percent year-on-year in 2012. Sichuan is in the Grade-Two pricing zone. In 2012, the sales price of high-grade flue-cured tobacco produced in Sichuan can reach a maximum of 1,560 yuan (246 U.S. dollars) per 50 kilograms.
