China: Yunnan Government Delegation Inspects Irrigation Project for Tobacco Production

A high-level delegation from the Communist Party Dali Prefecture Committee and the Dali Prefecture Government in Dali Prefecture of southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province inspected on January 5 a key project of building irrigation facilities for tobacco production in the prefecture, which is a key leaf tobacco production zone in Yunnan.

The delegation grouped Secretary Yin Jianye, Deputy Secretary Yang Jian and Organizational Department Chief Ye Cuiping of Dali Prefecture Communist Party Committee, Secretary General of the Dali Prefecture Government, Chairman Yang Xiuxing of the Federation of Trade Unions of Dali Prefecture, and Deputy Governor Xu Yingsu of Dali Prefecture. Accompanied by local officials including Director Fan Zaidou of Dali Prefecture Tobacco Monopoly Administration, Secretary Xu Huiliang of Xiangyun County Communist Party Committee, Xiangyun County Magistrate Wang Zhenglin and leaders of the relevant departments in the prefecture and county, conducted on-site inspection of the project, known as the project of construction of Qinghaihu Lake Reservoir under the large-scale water origin construction project in Xiangyun County of Yunnan funded by the tobacco industry of China. After on-site verification and hearing reports on the work of construction, the delegation fully affirmed the achievements already made in the construction of Qinghaihu Lake Reservoir. In particular, the delegation members were deeply moved by the reality that construction of the principal part of the project had already been completed after a relatively short period of only 120 days of construction, that the part constructed was already capable of holding water at the rainy season in a timely manner, and that the water held at the reservoir would be used for supplying water for both production of tobacco to the tune of 22,000 mu (1,467 hectares) and daily life of the more than 30,000 local residents, calling the success in the first year of construction of the project a miracle.
