Chinese County Successful in Operating Vocation Training of Tobacco Growers

Shizong County in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province has been successful in operating vocation training of local tobacco growers over the past few years, contributing to laying a solid foundation for promoting leaf tobacco production in the county with a favorable climate for tobacco growing. As a result of practice and exploration over the past few years, Shizong County has basically completed the establishment of a system for vocational training of local tobacco growers, with priority given to concentrated classroom training, and with all-round operation of training leading to the issuance of qualification certificates, training offered through the agricultural information channel on television, training by means of modern media, training through outgoing visits, training of Communist Party members in rural areas, training through mobile phone short message service, etc. In 2011, Shizong County twice organized the "training on leaf tobacco curing" and the "training on leaf tobacco grading in State leaf tobacco purchase", training leaders of local leaf tobacco purchase stations and leaf tobacco purchase lines to the tune of 121 persons-times, professional leaf tobacco curing technicians to the tune of 78 persons-times, members of local leaf tobacco curing technology service associations to the tune of 604 persons-times, local leaf tobacco curing and preliminary inspection and grading instructors to the tune of 1,021 persons-times, and local tobacco growers to the tune of 4,900 persons-times. The operation of vocational training has contributed to effectively enhancing the leaf tobacco curing technological guarantee capacity of the county, and increasing application of technology in leaf tobacco production in the county.
