Karnataka Growers Stage Demonstration Source from: Tobacco Reporter 11/29/2011 Tobacco growers in Karnataka, India, have staged a demonstration demanding the introduction of a support price, according to a story in the Hindu relayed by the TMA.
The growers, acting under the aegis of the Hunsur division of the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha and the State Tobacco Growers' Welfare Committee, were also demanding that unlicensed growers be allowed to sell their crops.
The demonstration was staged outside the deputy commissioner's office in Mysore on Thursday.
The growers called also for the facilitation of bank loans.
They urged the central government and the Tobacco Board of India to take immediate steps to solve growers' problems. Enditem
