Chinese Delegation to Visit India

A delegation comprising representatives from China Tobacco International Corp. and the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration is expected to visit India in December or January, according to a story by M. N. Samdani for the Times of India. The chairman of the Tobacco Board of India, G Kamala Vardhana Rao, hopes the visit will lead to a revival of tobacco trade between the two countries, which was stopped in the early 1980s following complaints of contamination in Indian leaf exports to China. An Indian delegation led by Rao visited China during the last week of September (see September 30 story, India promotes leaf tobacco in China). Rao said the team explained to their Chinese counterparts that Indian leaf tobacco met international quality standards. China used to import annually about 30 million kg of leaf tobacco from India until the imposition of the ban. Enditem
