Karnataka Sales Start Today

Flue-cured sales in Karnataka are set to start today, according to a story in the latest issue of the BBM Bommidala Group newsletter quoting officials at the Tobacco Board of India. The area under tobacco cultivation in the state this season is said to be down by about 12.6 per cent compared with that of last season, and production is expected to fall by about 15.6 per cent from 128 million kg (authorized crop 100 million kg) to 108 million kg (authorized crop 102 million kg). The estimated reduction in tobacco cultivation has been brought about by campaigning in the Mysore and Hassan districts of the state, according to the board chairman, G. Kamalavardhana Rao. Enditem
