Sales of Unauthorised Tobacco to Go Ahead

The Indian Ministry of Commerce has given the go-ahead for the Tobacco Board to allow the sale of excess flue-cured tobacco produced by both registered and unregistered growers in Andhra Pradesh, according to a story in the Hindu. Financial penalties will be imposed on the growers of this tobacco. Meanwhile, the board was due to hold a meeting today to fix the size of the authorized 2011-2012 Andhra crop. It seems likely that the crop size will be reduced given the relatively low level of interest shown by buyers in tobacco from the 2010-2011 crop. Enditem
