Board Buying Unwanted Burley

The Tobacco Board of Zambia (TBZ) on Monday started buying excess Burley tobacco from registered independent and sponsored farmers in the Eastern Province. Aven Muvwende, TBZ's CEO, said the tobacco was being bought at the sales floors in Chipata and Lundazi. He urged Burley growers in Chadiza, Kapara, Kazimule, Mgubudu, Zemba and Zozwe to make arrangements to have their crops delivered to the Chipata sales floor. Although the crop would be bought in US dollars, he said, payments would be made in Kwacha based on the exchange rate on the day of sale. Enditem
