US Crop Slightly Increased Source from: Tobacco Reporter 08/15/2011 US flue-cured production should be about three per cent up on that of last year, while Burley production will likely fall by about five per cent, according a special report by Christopher E. Bickers for the Tobacco Farm Newsletter, quoting the August Crop Report from the US Department of Agriculture.
The US' all-types tobacco production for 2011 is forecast at 726 million pounds, up one per cent from that of last year.
Production is estimated to comprise 465.3 million pounds of flue-cured, up 2.9 per cent; 178 million pounds of Burley, down five per cent; 6.4 million pounds of Southern Maryland, up 30.3 per cent; 15.4 million pounds of dark air-cured, up 1.8 per cent; 52.3 million pounds of fire-cured, up 8.1 per cent; and 15.4 million pounds of cigar types, down 21.2 per cent.
