Further Talks Needed to Fix Andhra Crop Size Source from: Tobacco Reporter 08/15/2011 A meeting on Tuesday between Tobacco Board of India representatives and tobacco growers failed to come up with an agreed size for the 2011-2012 Andhra Pradesh crop, according to a story in the Hindu.
But the board chairman, G. Kamala Vardhana Rao, has said that further talks will be held with farmers and traders to find an amicable solution.
Tuesday's meeting was held amid growing uncertainty over the authorized crop size because growers are still holding about 40 million kg of unsold tobacco from the current season.
The Indian Tobacco Association, which represents tobacco dealers, manufacturers and exporters, has asked the board to fix the Andhra crop at 120 million kg for 2011-12, down from 170 million kg in 2010-11, citing a decline in export orders. Enditem
