Domestic Manufacturers Try to Stem Grower Crisis Source from: Tobacco Reporter 08/08/2011 India's domestic cigarette manufacturers are currently attempting to bail out tobacco growers in Andhra Pradesh by buying at auction quantities of flue-cured in excess of their requirements, according to a story in the latest issue of the BBM Bommidala Group newsletter.
The move is aimed at helping to stabilize falling prices at the auction platforms.
It follows the receipt by the companies of a letter written by the Tobacco Board chairman, Kamalavardhan Rao, asking them to mitigate the effects of the lack of global demand for flue-cured and tide the growers over during the crisis. Enditem
