Call for One Third Cut in Andhra Crop Size

The Indian Tobacco Association wants flue-cured production to be cut by a third in Andhra Pradesh next season. The association, which represents tobacco dealers, manufacturers and exporters, has called for Andhra to produce 121.55 million kg during the 2011-2012 season, 60 million kg less than during the 2010-2011 season, according to a story in the latest issue of the BBM Bommidala Group newsletter. Domestic companies are looking for 58.9 million kg while exporters are said to require 62.65 million kg. This season's harvest, which is currently being sold, has met with sluggish demand from the association's members. The assessment has been made ahead of the Tobacco Board of India's July 22 meeting, which has been called to set the crop size for the 2011-2012 season in Andhra. Enditem
