1927 Kentucky Tobacco Warehouse is Slated for Demolition Source from: Courier Journal 07/11/2011 DANVILLE, Ky. — A Central Kentucky tobacco warehouse that once served as an agricultural hub has been sold to Centre College and is slated for demolition.
The demolition of Farmers Tobacco Warehouse No. 1 in Danville is set to begin in less than a week, the second piece of what was once the area's agricultural center to be destroyed in just over a month. Centre College also bought and tore down the Boyle County Stockyards.
Warehouse owner Jerry Rankin told The Advocate-Messenger that Centre paid a fair price for the property, which had been in use since 1927, but declined to discuss specifics.
Rankin said the warehouse has sold 78 million pounds of tobacco since 2000 and he will attempt to fill the need for a market. Enditem
