China: Key Tobacco-growing Area Suffers From Multiple Natural Disasters

Qujing City in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province has been hit hard by a series of natural disasters including droughts, floods, hailstorms and windstorms sweeping across 103,651 mu (6910 hectares) of tobacco fields so far this year, including 25,690 mu (1,713 hectares) with crops virtually wiped out.
By June 19, Xuanwei Town in Qujing had 9,210 mu (614 hectares) of tobacco fields visited by various natural disasters. Meanwhile, four townships in Fuyuan County of the city had 3,928 mu (262 hectares) of tobacco fields hit hard by various natural disasters.
In particular, 10 villages in three townships in Shizong County of Qujing City were hit hard on June 29 by serious hailstorms and windstorms, which swept across 35,330 mu (2,355 hectares) of tobacco fields here, including 20,550 mu (1,370 hectares) with crops virtually wiped out. Enditem
