Tanzania: Universal Leaf Workers Celebrate Family Day in Style Source from: The Citizen 05/25/2011 Dar Es Salaam - Workers of the Universal Leaf Tanzania (ULT) had an enlivening weekend when they joined up together on Saturday in a colourful Family Day 2010/11 bonanza at Magadu Officers Club on the outskirts of Morogoro, with sports and entertainment coming to the fore.
Excitement and togetherness ensued as ULT employees rubbed shoulders with the firm's top managers in various games, including athletics, tug-of-war, football, volleyball, basketball, netball, sack-race, high and long jump. The event kicked off with a 100m race, female category in which Rehema Mussa Kamala beat off competition from other contestants to emerge the top sprinter.
Then, the top management, led by executive officer of Universal Leaf, which owns Tanzania Tobacco Processing Limited and Tanzania Leaf Tobacco Company, Paul Crossan came to the scene as they locked horns against senior staff in a challenging but quite entertaining tug-of-war contest.
The football match tied up the Production team against their Engineering counterparts.
Production had a bright start as Idd Kiwamba shot them into the lead only seconds after the kick off.
However, it was Engineering lads who finished the game on top after they struck twice later through Shomari Matola.
Both teams missed from the spot kick, and it ended 2-1 In favour of Engineering.
On Volleyball, the top management demonstrated great skills, stoutly smashing senior staff by two sets, 15-4, 26-9. Enditem
