Volumes Up But Prices Down in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe's tobacco growers have so far sold 70.8 million kg of flue-cured for about US$195 million, an average of US$2.75 per kg, according to a story in The Herald quoting the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board. During the same period of last year's selling season, 51.4 million kg of flue-cured were sold for about US$160 million, an average price of US$3.11 per kg. So far this season, 943,630 bales have been offered for sale, of which 875,861 have been sold and 67,769 have been rejected, giving a rejection rate of 7.2 per cent.
