India Making Major Investment in Auction Platforms Source from: Tobacco Reporter 04/18/2011 The Tobacco Board of India has announced that it is planning to invest Rs981.3 million this financial year in setting up seven new auction platforms and upgrading existing ones, according to a story in the latest issue of the BBM Bommidala Group's newsletter.
This was one of the decisions to come out of a recent meeting by the board's governing body in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.
Three platforms will be established in Karnataka: at Kampalapura, Periyapatna and HD Kote; and four in Andhra, at Tangutur, Santhanuthalapadu, Koyyalagudem and Aswaraopet.
The platforms, which will include storage facilities, will be equipped with computers and closed circuit televisions to monitor the auctioning of the leaf.
The board's chairman, G. Kamalavardhana Rao, said that all of the platforms would be ready for the next sales seasons in Karnataka and Andhra. Enditem
