Shaanxi Unveils Quality Tobacco Development Project

The Provincial Tobacco Monopoly Administration in northwest China's tobacco-producing Shaanxi Province has recently formulated and put to execution a major project to develop high-quality leaf tobacco with unique local characteristics, which is designed to ensure the development of "medium-aroma quality leaf tobacco", "strong aroma quality leaf tobacco" and "low-risk leaf tobacco" with unique local characteristics. To facilitate execution of the high quality leaf tobacco development project, Shaanxi Provincial Tobacco Monopoly Administration has formed a leading taskforce to oversee the work of developing high-quality leaf tobacco with unique local characteristic, which is specifically in charge of formulating general plans, coordinating decision making on major issues, reviewing and approving general execution schemes, hearing reports on the execution of the project, controlling progress in the execution of the project, reporting and exchanging information on the execution of the project by all local regions, studying settlement of major issues in the execution of the project, coordinating the relationship between the scientific-technological, agricultural and industrial sectors involved in the execution of the project, promoting the tripartite cooperation, reviewing and approving funding budgets, and providing guarantee of human, financial and material resources for the execution of the project. The project unveiled this time involves 19 topics on the development of "medium-aroma quality leaf tobacco", "strong aroma quality leaf tobacco" and "low-risk leaf tobacco" with unique local characteristics, which will all be accomplished in the 2011-2015 five-year period.
