Chinese County to Invest Heavily in Development of Modern Tobacco Agriculture Source from: TobaccoChina Online 02/21/2011 Midu County in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province has adopted a plan to invest 210 million yuan (31 million U.S. dollars) over the next three years in promoting full-scale development of a modern tobacco agriculture in the county, with a view to turning Midu into a first-rate national-level high-quality model leaf tobacco producing zone with a modern tobacco agriculture and with local characteristics.
Under the plan, Midu County will strive to fulfill the targets of establishing three high-quality leaf tobacco production areas respectively at the Bixiong River valley, Bici River valley and Lishejiang River valley, completing the establishment of 200,000 mu (13,333 hectares) of basic tobacco plantations, and increasing the annual leaf tobacco production capacity of Midu to 200,000 dan (10,000 tons) over the next three years, in order that the county's annual leaf tobacco output value will reach 200 million yuan (30 million U.S. dollars) at the end of the 2011-2015 five-year period.
