China: County Selected as Experimental Area for Developing Faint-Aromatic Tobacco Source from: TobaccoChina Online 02/15/2011 Shizong County in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province has been selected as one of the 13 experimental areas in China for developing varieties of faint-aromatic tobacco, under the Program of Action for the Research of Subjects of Selection and Utilization of Varieties of Faint-Aromatic Tobacco with Local Characteristics for 2011 formulated by the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA).
Over recent years, the tobacco industry of China has kept promoting the development of high-quality tobacco products with local characteristics, greatly strengthening its capacity to guarantee the supply of high-quality leaf tobacco for cigarette production. The STMA attaches great importance to the development of high-quality leaf tobacco with local characteristics.
The 13 experimental areas for developing varieties of faint-aromatic tobacco selected by the STMA are in Yunnan, Sichuan and Guizhou Provinces in southwest China and Fujian Province in southeast China - six in Yunnan, two in Guizhou, two in Sichuan and three in Fujian. Enditem
