Bulgaria to Set Up Tobacco Advisory Board Source from: Tobacco Reporter 01/25/2011 A tobacco advisory board that is to be established at the Bulgarian Agriculture Ministry will include representatives of tobacco producers and companies, and state administrators and legislators, according to a Novinite story.
The setting up of the board was announced on Friday by the Bulgarian Agriculture Minister, Miroslav Naydenov, after he met with members of parliament and the big tobacco buying companies.
The participants at the meeting agreed that the tobacco sector in Bulgaria could not survive without receiving subsidies from the state and assistance from the companies.
And the buying companies agreed to support tobacco producers provided that state funding were provided.
The meeting included discussions with the MPs about providing BGN70 million to tobacco producers during the second half of this year.
The buying of last year's tobacco started last week and is expected to finish at the end of March. Enditem
