China: Fujian Provincial corporation starts construction of research complex

Fujian Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation - the operator of the tobacco industry in southeast China's Fujian Province - started on November 8 the construction of the Scientific-Technological Research Complex of its Technology Center, with a planned total investment of 548 million yuan (80.6 million U.S. dollars). The Scientific-Technological Research Complex will have a floor space of 41,336 square meters, with the total construction area determined at 48,174 square meters. It will be used mainly as the research building of the Technology Center, a postdoctoral scientific-technological research station for China's tobacco industry, and also a comprehensive service building for the provincial corporation. In the 2006-2010 five-year period, Fujian Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation invested a total of 6 billion yuan (880 million U.S. dollars) in actively promoting fulfillment of a series of projects of technological transformation, including the project of technological transformation of its subsidiary Longyan Cigarette Factory's production line exclusively used for producing the luxurious class Seven Wolves brand cigarettes, the project of technological transformation of its subsidiary Xiamen Cigarette Factory's production line exclusively used for producing Golden Bridge brand blend-type cigarettes, and the project of technological transformation of its leaf tobacco threshing and redrying line. In particular, the technologically transformed Longyan Cigarette Factory's production line exclusively used for producing the luxurious class Seven Wolves brand cigarettes was put to trial production on December 31, 2009, and the technologically transformed Xiamen Cigarette Factory's production line exclusively used for producing Golden Bridge brand blend-type cigarettes has been put to formal production after successful test run at the end of June 2010. The technological transformation of the leaf tobacco threshing and redrying line was started in July 2010. In the 2011-2005 five-year period, Fujian Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation will invest over 3 billion yuan (over 440 million U.S. dollars) in promoting technological innovation. In the 2006-2010 five-year period and the 2011-2005 five-year period, Fujian Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation will have invested a total of 9 billion yuan (1.32 billion U.S. dollars) in promoting technological transformation and innovation.
