Pakistan's Important Tobacco Crop Over Demand Source from: Tobacco Reporter 10/26/2010 The tobacco crop in Pakistan is likely to be bigger this year than the demand estimated by tobacco companies, despite massive floods that inundated huge areas of the country, according to a Daily Mail News story.
Quoting trade sources, the paper said that flue cured production was estimated to be 84 million kg while demand had been estimated at 70 million kg.
The production levels of dark air-cured and white patta are also expected to be above demand levels.
The paper said that though tobacco was grown on a relatively small area of the total irrigated land in the country, it was of great economic value as a source of revenue, employment and foreign exchange earnings. Enditem
