Guizhou Provincial Tobacco Company Completes Establishment of Systems of Production Standards

Guizhou Provincial Tobacco Company in southwest China's Guizhou Province, which doubles as the provincial tobacco monopoly administration, has recently completed the establishment of the system of Basic Requirements for Technologies for Producing Flue-Cured Tobacco with Local Characteristics of Guizhou Province and the system of Standards for Flue-Cured Tobacco of Guizhou Province. Recently, Guizhou Provincial Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau invited 17 experts from the Science and Technology Department of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration, China Tobacco Standardization Research Center, Qingzhou Research Institute of China National Tobacco Corporation, Guizhou University and other institutes to form a panel to technically appraise a total of 39 local tobacco production standards, including the Basic Requirements for Technologies for Producing Flue-Cured Tobacco with Local Characteristics of Guizhou Province, and Standards for Flue-Cured Tobacco of Guizhou Province. As a result, both systems passed the technical appraisal. In their appraisal, the panel of experts unanimously agreed that the system of Basic Requirements for Technologies for Producing Flue-Cured Tobacco with Local Characteristics of Guizhou Province and the system of Standards for Flue-Cured Tobacco of Guizhou Province are based on summarization of the successful experience of Guizhou Province in flue-cured tobacco production technology development and management over many years in the past. In particular, the standards under the Standards for Flue-Cured Tobacco of Guizhou Province cover the selection and development of new tobacco varieties in Guizhou Province since the beginning of the 11th Five-Year Plan period (2006-2010), research of leaf tobacco products with local characteristics, integration of technologies for the development of a modern tobacco agriculture, development of technologies meant to save costs and increase efficiency, development of technologies for bulk curing of tobacco leaf scraps and other new achievements in technological development and management, which not only reflect the styles and characteristics of the norms of technology for producing the medium aroma type (mountainous sweet mellow type) and the pure fragrant type (mountainous pure sweet fragrant type) leaf tobacco of Guizhou, but also embodies application of modern technologies in tobacco production in Guizhou Province. Therefore, the standards are relatively highly scientific, suitable and applicable. Some of the standards are somewhat innovative, and contribute to providing powerful technological support for the production and processing as well as market competition of leaf tobacco of Guizhou. Therefore, the panel of experts concluded that the system of Basic Requirements for Technologies for Producing Flue-Cured Tobacco with Local Characteristics of Guizhou Province and the system of Standards for Flue-Cured Tobacco of Guizhou Province are both in conformity with the relevant requirements of the State and the tobacco industry of China, and have drawn on advanced ideas and requirements of developed countries for leaf tobacco quality and safety, provide technological support for guaranteeing leaf tobacco quality and safety, provide technological basis for realizing standardization of leaf tobacco production and management in Guizhou, and are of great significance to promoting the development of a modern tobacco agriculture and realizing continued, stable and healthy development of tobacco production in Guizhou Province. The system of Basic Requirements for Technologies for Producing Flue-Cured Tobacco with Local Characteristics of Guizhou Province and the system of Standards for Flue-Cured Tobacco of Guizhou Province have been formulated by scientific-technological human resources organized by Guizhou Provincial Tobacco Company from its subordinate Science and Technology Office, Leaf Tobacco Office, Guizhou Provincial Tobacco Science Institute, Guizhou Provincial Leaf Tobacco Threshing and Redrying Company and other prefecture-level tobacco companies in accordance with the requirement of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration for establishing provincial-level and prefecture-level systems of tobacco production standards.
