Farmers And Buyers Welcome Leaf Trade Deal Source from: Tobacco Reporter 09/08/2010 Vietnam has said it will reinstate duty-free imports of Cambodian leaf tobacco later this month, according to a story in The Phnom Penh Post.
The move comes after a three-year deal that had enabled Cambodia to export annually 3,000 tonnes of leaf to Vietnam duty-free expired at the end of last year.
When that deal ended, the trade, hit by duties of about $800 per tonne, fell off and farmer prices in Cambodia tumbled 50 per cent.
The new deal will renew duty-free quotas for 2010 and 2011, a move that both farmers and tobacco buyers have welcomed. Enditem
