Leaf Warehouse Opened in Philippines

Philip Morris Philippines Manufacturing (PMPM) yesterday inaugurated its P600 million regional leaf tobacco warehouse at the Philippines' Subic Bay Freeport. The warehouse has a capacity for storing 14,000 tonnes of leaf and could be expanded to accommodate an additional 10,000 tonnes. It will store leaf for shipment and processing in various Philip Morris International cigarette factories in the Asia Pacific region, including the Philippines. "This development establishes the Philippines, particularly the Subic Freeport zone, as a major center for regional tobacco leaf trading and distribution," said PMPM managing director, Chris Nelson. Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Administrator, Armand C. Arreza, said the new warehouse was part of a three-phase investment plan. The third phase, he added, would involve a $15-million facility, though he did not know when that would be implemented. Enditem
