Zimbabwe Increases Crop-Size Estimate

Zimbabwe's Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) has revised the national flue-cured output target upwards by more than 20 per cent, from 77 million kg to 93 million kg, according to a story in The Herald. As of Thursday, 81.06 million kg of tobacco valued at US$242.7 million had been sold since the season began in February. Of the 81.06 million kg, 46.6 million kg was sold under the contract system for US$146.05 million, while 34.4 million kg was sold under the auction system for US$96.6 million. According to the TIMB, the earlier conservative estimate of 77 million kg was made after the crop had been affected by a dry spell that hit most parts of the country. But deliveries have shown that the bulk of the crop performed well despite the dry weather. Enditem
