By May 15, Qujing City Tobacco Company, in fulfillment of its project of research and generalization of the technology of applying aphidius gifuensis ashmead in fighting the propagation of myzus persicae, had completed the growing of 134,400 plants of tobacco for breeding aphidius gifuensis ashmead in small greenhouses, which can be used for releasing aphidius gifuensis ashmead to 120,000 mu (8,000 hectares) of tobacco fields, and had completed the growing of 160,000 plants of tobacco for breading aphidius gifuensis ashmead in large greenhouses, which can be used for releasing aphidius gifuensis ashmead to 80,000 mu (5,333 hectares) of tobacco fields.
Qujing City Tobacco Company has included the project of research and generalization of the technology of applying aphidius gifuensis ashmead in fighting the propagation of myzus persicae into the scope of its major scientific-technological research and development projects, and regularly allocates exclusive funding for generalizing the application of this technology.
It was reported that by 2012, Qujing City Tobacco Company will have completed the process of generalizing the application of aphidius gifuensis ashmead in fighting the propagation of myzus persicae to 2 million mu (133,330 hectares) of tobacco fields, with a total investment of 20 million yuan (2.9 million U.S. dollars), in order to reduce the use of chemical pesticides in the regions concerned by 50 percent or higher, and in order that the control efficiency will reach 80 percent or higher.
Specifically, the city tobacco company plans to generalize the application of aphidius gifuensis ashmead in fighting the propagation of myzus persicae to 200,000 mu (13,330 hectares) of tobacco fields in 2010, with an investment of 8 million yuan (1.15 million U.S. dollars); 700,000 mu (46,667 hectares) of tobacco fields in 2011, with an investment of 6 million yuan (857,150 U.S. dollars); and 1.1 million mu (73,330 hectares) of tobacco fields in 2012, with an investment of 6 million yuan (857,150 U.S. dollars).
Aphidius gifuensis ashmead is an important parasitic natural enemy of myzus persicae. It plays an important role in controlling the myzus persicae population. Enditem
