Zimbabwe Sales Off to A Slower Start Source from: Tobacco Reporter 04/13/2010 Zimbabwe earned US$45.3 million from the sale of 13.39 million kg of flue-cured tobacco during the first 23 days of sales, according to a story in the Zimbabwe Independent quoting the Tobacco Industry Marketing Board.
During the same period of last year's sales, 19.6 million kg were sold for US$56.4 million.
So far this year, the Zimbabwe Tobacco Auction Centre has sold 4.18 million kg for US$14.00 million at an average price of US$3.35 per kg, while the Tobacco Sales Floor auction floors have sold 3.5 million kg for US$11.68 million at an average price of US$3.33 per kg.
Meanwhile, 5.7 million kg have been sold under contract for US$19.59 million at an average price of US$3.44 per kg.
Zimbabwe is expecting to sell 77 million kg of flue-cured this year, up from 42 million kg last season. Enditem
