Businessman Sets Up Flea Market at Auction Floors Source from: Zimbabwe Herald 02/25/2010 Businesspeople are set to cash in on tobacco farmers following the establishment of a flea market at Mutsvairo Business Centre adjacent to Boka Tobacco Action floors.
In an interview yesterday, Mr Dickson Mutsvairo - owner of the premises - said the move was necessitated by the need to provide reliable and traceable services to farmers.
"Many unsuspecting farmers were being conned by dealers selling clothing or huge items such as vehicles.
"Last year, we had a case where a farmer bought a vehicle that he drove for a few hours before it broke down. The farmer failed to trace the person who had sold that vehicle to him," Mr Mutsvairo said.
He said this was just the tip of the iceberg as many farmers lost their hard-earned cash to thieves and sex workers. Mr Mutsvairo said people intending to rent a stand at the flea market should be licensed to do so by the relevant city authorities. He said they would let out at least 150 tables and stands. The market is divided into two categories, with one selling clothes and the other big items like vehicles.
Mr Mutsvairo, who was given the green light to operate last year, bemoaned the delay by the city council to approve his plan for a lodge at the stand.
"We applied to construct a lodge in August of last year but our application has not been approved up to now," he said. Enditem
