Farmers Postpone Protest in Bulgaria

Bulgarian tobacco producers have postponed a planned rally against low subsidies following a meeting with the prime minister late yesterday, according to a Novinite report. More than 20,000 Bulgarian tobacco producers were about to take to the streets this morning, blockading the Danube Bridge crossing to Romania and the border checkpoints with Greece. The tobacco growers are insisting that they should receive payments agreed by the Bulgarian Council of Ministers and authorized by the European Commission earlier in January.
