Fiji Farmers Switch From Sugar to Tobacco

Farmers have slowly switched from sugarcane to tobacco farming in most parts of Nadi, Fiji, according to a story in the Fiji Sun. Akuila Nacegutuilagi is now one of the many tobacco growers at Balenakula in Sabeto. The 33-year-old electrician, who farms his land during his "leisure time", says he started growing tobacco for British American Tobacco (Fiji) Ltd. this year. BAT provides the seedlings, fertilizer and labor, and plows the land, a level of input that is reflected in the prices paid. Enditem
