Recession Holds Back Cuban Tobacco Crop

Cuba's farms will produce almost 30 percent less tobacco this year.

The cutbacks have been put down to the economic troubles that have overtaken the island, caused by the rising cost of imports, devastating hurricanes that occurred in 2008 and the trade and financial embargoes of the US.
The amount of land planted with tobacco was reduced from 28,200 hectares to 19,800 hectares this year.
Cuba is famous for its tobaccos and its cigar types, such as Montecristo, Cohiba and Hoyo de Monterrey. Enditem
