Zimbabwe: TIMB to Hold Clean-Up Sales Next Week

Harare - THE Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board will hold clean-up sales for this year's flue-cured virginia tobacco next Tuesday. The TIMB also indicated that depending on the volume of deliveries the clean-up sale might be held beyond a day. "Depending on the volume of deliveries the clean-up sale may be continued for more than one day, until all delivered tobacco has been sold, but not beyond Thursday, 24 September 2009," read part of the statement. All growers, the TIMB said, are urged to complete their grading and baling operations and to deliver their tobacco before the date of the clean-up sales. "Growers who anticipate that they will not be able to complete preparing and delivering their tobacco by this date should advise TIMB without delay," the TIMB said. According to the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board Act [Chapter 18:20] any person who has in their possession or under their control tobacco which remains unsold after December 15 of every year must apply for a permit to hold that tobacco. Applications for such permits must be lodged with TIMB before the December 15 deadline. Permits will be issued under such terms and conditions as will be advised to each applicant. The 2009 tobacco-selling season ended over a week ago with about 55,2 million kg worth over US$165,9 million having been sold. Contract sales are expected to continue until this Friday. Enditem
