Truckers Record Brisk Business at Tobacco Auction Floors

Truckers operating at the Tobacco Auction Floors say this year they are recording brisk business as they are transporting farmers with their equipment and household goods back to their farms. While the Tobacco Auction Floors are receiving higher volumes of the golden leaf because of competitive prices, truckers say it is also cascading down to them. They say while in the past some farmers could not buy farming implements immediately after sales, this year it is different as farmers have the cash to buy farming implements and household goods. "Business is booming this year as farmers have ready cash to buy various goods," they said. They say this year the selling of tobacco is organized and they are no delays with the farmers also willing to pay early for the transportation of their bales as well as furniture and other goods. "Unlike the previous years when farmers did not get their money on the spot this time the selling period is very organized and farmers are able to pay what they owe us immediately". Said one truck driver When ZBC News crew visited some of the auction floors in Harare truckloads of various goods, farming equipment as well as other inputs were ready to ferry these to various destinations across the country.
