Growers Hit by Floods in Malaysia

Mar 10, 2009-Tobacco growers in Malaysia's Bachok territory were reported to have suffered losses amounting to RM23 million during three days of flooding that inundated 1,500 ha of tobacco last week, according to a report in The Star. State National Tobacco Board (LTN) assistant director, Razali Harun, said that a survey conducted by LTN's Crop Monitoring and Production Committee had taken into account farmers' earnings, labor and input materials. But it had not included all of the affected areas, including those in Pasir Puteh. Nearly 2,000 growers are thought to have been affected. Enditem
