India: Purchase of Illegal Tobacco Urged

Hunsur, Feb. 15 (DV)- Urging for the purchase of illegal tobacco, the members of Tobacco Welfare Committee blocked the road in front of Taluk Office and protested yesterday. Committee Hon. President Harihara Anandaswamy who spoke said that Tobacco Board Officers are misleading the farmers. The matter regarding staging strike in front of tobacco auction centre instead of Taluk Office will be discussed with the tobacco growers, he said. "There is a necessity for the tobacco growers to be afraid of. Till they are permitted to sell their tobacco in full, the struggle will continue," he said. MLC H.P. Manjunath who addressed the protestors, said, "A feeling of oneness among the tobacco growers should be created without disparity like legal and illegal tobacco growers. The matter has been discussed with Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner. I am always with you in your struggle," he assured. Tobacco Board member and former MLA V. Papanna said that injustice has been caused to illegal tobacco growers due to the instigation of some officers of Tobacco Board. Action should be taken against such officers, he urged. Enditem
