Indian Farmers Enjoy Good Prices For Tobacco

Dec 31, 2008-Tobacco prices in Karnataka reached Rs152.30 per kg for the best grades and the average price stood at Rs107.00 per kg yesterday, according to a report in The Hindu. Some observers complained that such prices were unsustainable, despite the fact that they were the prices being paid by free agents on unfettered auction platforms. Farmers at least were confident enough of their position yesterday to close the auctions down when prices fell by about Rs3.00 per kg. Enditem
