General Tobacco Begins Production at Mayodan Plant Source from: journalnow.com JOURNAL STAFF AND WIRE REPORT 03/07/2008 General Tobacco said yesterday that it has started production and distribution at its $55 million manufacturing plant in Mayodan.
General moved to Mayodan from Miami last year to be closer to the heart of tobacco production in the country. It opened production with its Broncos cigarette brand. Production of its GT One, Silver and 32 Degree cigarettes, along with its Vaquero Little Cigars, is expected to begin this month.
The company has committed to creating 200 tobacco-manufacturing jobs over the next three years.
General, founded in 1997, is the sixth-largest tobacco-maker in the United States, with $300 million in sales in 2007. It is a subsidiary of privately held Vibo Corp. The company is eligible for $3 million in performance-based incentives from Rockingham County and the city of Mayodan. Enditem
