Farmers Keep Support Deadline in Sight Source from: tr.itsmyiq.com Aug 3, 2007 08/06/2007 Despite earlier reports to the contrary, flue-cured deliveries to Harare's auction floors have remained firm as most farmers battle to deliver their tobacco before a September 30 deadline, according to a report in The Herald. Price support will not be available after the end of September.
The support price was this week raised to Z$55,000 per kg from Z$40,000 per kg for tobacco sold at US$1.50 or above, and, according to the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board, farmers have received Z$3,516,459,364,624 so far this season, during which they have delivered 56,304,531 kg of flue-cured.
