Yankton, SD Man Grows Tobacco In His Garden Source from: ktiv.com 07/24/2007 During the summer many people grow fruits and vegetables in their gardens. But, what about tobacco? That is exactly what one Siouxland man is growing.
John Magnuson, of Yankton, South Dakota, has been growing tobacco in his own backyard. His curiosity stemmed from the recent spike in tobacco tax and a television show on tobacco.
Magnuson isn't using the product for himself. It's just an experiment. "I'm not a smoker, but I do like to have a cigar just occasionally, and everyone talks about the cigarette tax," said Magnuson.
This spring he began planting the one of a kind seed, but has lost some of his crops due to the unique midwest climate. But, that does not stop this one of a kind farmer from nurturing the plants that are left.
The tobacco plants growing are Cuban broadleaf, and also a Kentucky and Tennessee variety. Enditem
