Tobacco Crops on the Rise

Wisconsin's burley tobacco crop has grown to about 200 acres this year. Tobacco giant, Philip Morris is facing shortages this year, and is looking to the Midwest to grow more tobacco. Tobacco crops require a lot of tedious, manual labor during the summer months. But some local tobacco farmers say the extra manual labor is worth it. Farmers say an acre of Burley Tobacco can be worth four-thousand dollars....which is six times more than an acre of corn. A Vernon County tobacco farmer says this newer niche crop is a great economic boom for the community. The majority of tobacco farms in Wisconsin are located in Vernon, Rock and Dane counties. Enditem
