Zimbabwe: Tobacco Board to Hold Meetings

IN a bid to boost tobacco production and equip farmers with new technology, the Tobacco Research Board will next week hold circus meetings in all the provinces. Pertinent issues regarding the art and science of tobacco growing would be discussed during the meetings to be held over 18 days, the board said. "As part of the continuing effort to boost tobacco production in the country, the Tobacco Research Board will be conducting circus meetings in all tobacco-growing districts as from 19 June to 6 July, 2007," the board said. "Latest research information on sustainable production to boost the tobacco yield will be offered." The research board added that farmers would be trained on the use of the new technology of using float trays to produce tobacco seedlings. Other topics to be discussed include varieties for better yield, tobacco moth and aphid management and related legislation affecting the industry. The circus meetings would run under the theme "Unpacking Science . . . Manufacturing Value". Tobacco is one of Zimbabwe's major foreign currency earners. Enditem
