Tobacco-growing region, manufacturers step up efforts to establish production bases Source from: Source: Enshi District 03/28/2007 Enshi District – a key tobacco-producing region in central China’s Hubei Province – and a number of Chinese tobacco manufacturers are stepping up efforts to establish exclusive high-quality leaf tobacco production bases in Enshi mainly by further increasing investment.
On March 22, a symposium was held in Enshi on further increasing investment in the establishment of exclusive high-quality leaf tobacco production bases in the district. It was decided at the meeting that an extra over 30 million yuan (3.75 million U.S. dollars) will be made in the establishment of production bases there in 2007.
In 2006, more than 20 Chinese tobacco manufacturers, including such heavyweights as Wuhan Tobacco Group, Changde Cigarette Factory and Hongta Group, started the establishment of high-quality leaf tobacco production bases in Enshi, with a total investment of 18 million yuan (2.25 million U.S. dollars). In the year, these production bases supplied the tobacco manufacturers with 760,000 dan (38,000 tons) of high-quality leaf tobacco, accounting for 83 percent of the total leaf tobacco yield produced in the district.
Enshi is expected to supply the tobacco manufacturers with 920,000 dan (46,000 tons) of high-quality leaf tobacco in 2007. Enditem
