Three extra companies to buy at auctions

Eight companies, three more than in 2006, are expected to buy tobacco at Malawi's auctions this year, according to local reports. The general manager of Auction Holdings Ltd (AHL), Evans Chipala, named six of the companies as Limbe Leaf Tobacco Ltd, Alliance One, Premium Tama Leaf, Malawi Leaf, Africa Leaf and Premier Leaf. He said he could not disclose the names of the other two companies, one of which was local and the other of which was international. Chipala described the appearance of the three additional buyers as healthy for the industry. Prices, he added, were likely to improve at the auctions, due to open on March 26. Enditem
